If you're up for a really spectacular (and rugged) hike to get the full experience of the Cumberland Plateau then the Fiery Gizzard is for you. You can hike it straight through for 13 miles but you'll need two vehicles. Or, hike the 10 mile loop which winds through the gorge and up along the plateau. Early spring may be the best time of year to be there to take in the wildflowers along with numerous waterfalls flowing heavy due to the rainfall. And you may even catch the Pink Lady's Slippers (wild orchids) if you're there around the second week of May. One of the best hikes in the state of Tennessee but be prepared for some serious rock hopping through boulder sections in the gorge. Check out the link to the South Cumberland for information on the Fiery Gizzard and other cool hikes in the area.
