Chasing the light and sometimes the storm was quite an adventure in Death Valley this February. Had a fantastic group of clients in the workshop and we photographed intensely in this beautiful and extreme environment. While scouting before the workshop, I was fortunate to be in the dunes just before and after sunrise with storm clouds and light still swirling around. Extraordinary experience.
We were even treated to some great light on our long and mostly bumpy ride out to the Racetrack and back. Although the trip is rough, the views and photo opportunities are unique, there is no other place quite like the Racetrack.
And finally made my way over to the Eastern Sierra and photographed Mobius Arch with Mount Whitney in the Background. Fantastic time at sunset and sunrise. There is a lifetime to photograph there...!
We had a blast photographing iconic locations like Badwater Basin, Mesquite Dunes, Zabriskie Point and many other off the beaten path scenes. This year we were treated to a super bloom of wildflowers in the park. Wildflowers in the desert present some unique photographic opportunities. We covered topics like focus stacking, shooting for panoramic scenes and even delved into the world of the tilt shift lens. Our goals were simple: Adventure, Photography, Learning, and Connecting. I think we hit the mark and I'm already looking forward to Death Valley 2017. Many thanks to a fantastic group of clients, am looking forward to photographing with you again soon!
